Who We Are (CCHS)
and Who We Aren’t (Historic Preservation Commission)
If you’re wondering about the social history of your Chevy Chase neighborhood, or want to look at historic photographs of your house, call The Chevy Chase Historical Society.
CCHS vs. HPC
These two organizations have different functions and purposes. CCHS is a
nonprofit membership organization whose mission is to collect, record, interpret and share materials relating to the history of Chevy Chase, Maryland, one of America's first streetcar suburbs.
The Historic Preservation Commission (of Montgomery County) (HPC) is part
of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission. HPC is a
governmental agency, funded by appropriations, that was established in 1979
and has primary responsibility for designation and regulation of County
designated historic properties and historic area work permits. Its web site,
http://www.mc-mncppc.org/, contains further information about HPC, as well as
forms for tax credits and work permits.
